OVERVIEW
The Whale Rock Dam captures water from a 20.3 square mile watershed, and water is delivered to the three agencies through 17.6 miles of 30-inch pipeline and two pumping stations. The Whale Rock Spillway is 850 feet long and constructed of concrete. It's designed with a capacity of 9,500 cubic feet/second.
Whale Rock has spilled 12 times since its completion in 1961, which underscores the importance of having a solid infrastructure. Seamair was hired to repair the spillway underdrain to ensure its continued proper functioning.
